Dr. Swanson is currently curriculum development program manager for the Food Safety Preventive Control Alliance at the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Institute for Food Safety and Health. She started her career as assistant professor of food microbiology at Cornell University; then developed food microbiological test applications at 3M; solidified her food safety experience at The Pillsbury Company and General Mills, progressing to director of global product safety; and was vice president food safety at Ecolab prior to starting her consulting business in 2013. She has served in influential roles including ICMSF editorial committee chair for Microorganisms in Foods 8, the National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods that developed HACCP principles to shape US food safety regulations, and National Academy of Science Committees. Dr. Swanson is an IAFP past-president and fellow, and an IFT fellow. She earned her BS from the University of Delaware, USA, and MS and PhD from the University of Minnesota, USA, and numerous awards and recognitions for her contributions to food safety.
