Dr. Kasuga is a Commissioner at Food Safety Commission of Japan, the national risk assessment organization for food safety. Fumiko graduated and received Ph.D. from The University of Tokyo, and was formerly a Director at the National Institute of Health Sciences, Japan until March 2016, working on microbiological risk analysis for food safety and epidemiology of foodborne diseases under the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan, then was Senior Fellow at the National Institute for Environmental Studies, before joining Nagasaki University as a Professor in April, 2023. Internationally she has worked with WHO and FAO, in JEMRA and FERG. Fumiko was Vice-President of Science Council of Japan in charge of international activities from 2011 to 2014, when she was engaged in establishing the Future Earth global secretariat. At Future Earth she was Global Hub Director – Japan from 2015 until 2025, and now is a Science and Administrative Officer.
