Clarifications on the TP CCP Framework in Food Safety Testing

ICMSF has responded in a letter to the editor regarding the paper Testing Program Critical Control Points (TP CCP): Characterising and Optimising Decision making Power in Food Safety Testing (Mosso et al., 2025). In this paper the authors introduce new thinking and structured approaches to evaluate and improve current food safety management systems by proposing a new concept, the TP CCP. ICMSF wished to offer clarification and further comment on several points, particularly the role of testing within food safety management. Testing is only one component of such systems and functions as a means of verification rather than as a control measure. The authors of the original article agree with this position, and the combination of the paper, the letter, and the response provides a clearer picture of the value of the TP CCP framework.
