ICMSF experts contribute to 2026 Food Safety Summit™ in Johannesburg
10 June 2026
The 2026 Food Safety Summit™ took place from 2 to 3 June 2026 at the Emperors Palace Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. Held annually in alignment with World Food Safety Day, the Summit serves as a key platform for advancing dialogue on food safety across science, policy, and industry practice in South Africa and beyond.
The Summit brought together leading voices from across the food sector, attracting industry thought leaders, regulatory stakeholders, academics, and professionals from across the food value chain. The event is designed to promote collaboration and the exchange of knowledge, supporting a shared commitment to improving food safety outcomes both locally and globally.
Convened and hosted by Dr Lucia Anelich, the Summit’s 2026 programme featured a comprehensive two-day series of sessions addressing key trends, emerging risks, and critical challenges facing the food and beverage industry. A group of experts from the ICMSF participated in the programme this year, sharing their expertise on several topics. These were Dr Wayne Anderson (Ireland), Dr Michelle Danyluk (USA) and Dr Peter McClure (UK), whilst Dr Tom Ross (Australia) and Dr Darrell Donahue (USA) hosted a mini-workshop on Process Control and Microbiological Sampling.
Following the Summit, the ICMSF members convened in Durban for their annual meeting, continuing their work on advancing global food safety standards and scientific guidance.
