ICMSF, ILSI South East Asia Region, and SEAFAST host successful food safety workshop

4 November 2025

On 27 October 2025, following the ICMSF Annual Meeting, the ICMSF joined forces with the International Life Sciences Institute South East Asia Region (ILSI-SEAr) and the SEAFAST Centre of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB University) to convene a hybrid workshop on the value of food safety risk assessment for both government authorities and the food industry.

The workshop brought together a wide range of public and private sector stakeholders from Indonesia and across Asia to explore the application of Microbiological Risk Assessment (MRA) in enhancing regulatory frameworks and food safety management systems.

Opening remarks were delivered by Eko Hari Purnomo (Head, Department of Food Science and Technology, IPB University), Puspo Edi Giriwono (Head, SEAFAST Centre), Geoffry Smith (President, ILSI-SEAr), and Marcel Zwietering (Chairperson, ICMSF). Expert presentations were given by Leon Gorris, Chai Lay Ching, Marcel Zwietering, Lucia Anelich, Ratih Dewanti-Hariyadi, and John Donaghy, who shared insights on the principles, practical applications, and benefits of MRA in safeguarding food safety.

The event attracted significant participation, with 170 professionals attending online and 54 joining in person. Feedback from participants reflected a strong interest in continued collaboration and knowledge exchange on microbiological food safety.
