18 June 2025
The recording of the recent LAS-ICMSF Food Safety Webinar, “Gap or perspective? Different views on microbiological sampling plans for food in Latin American countries,” held on 17 June 2025, is now available to watch online.
This thought-provoking session, hosted by the Latin American Sub-Commission (LAS) of the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Foods (ICMSF) with the support of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), brought together leading voices in food safety to explore the diverse approaches to microbiological sampling plans across Latin America.
Streaming in both English and Spanish, the free webinar provided a valuable platform for comparing global and regional experiences, examining practical case studies, and exploring the use of the ICMSF Microbiological Sampling Plan Assessment Tool. The session highlighted how differences in sampling plan implementation often stem from varying institutional missions, balancing the industry’s focus on efficiency with regulators’ responsibility for public health.
Through lively presentations and discussion, the webinar helped shed light on how differing expectations and interpretations may contribute to gaps in food safety management. Importantly, it also presented tools and strategies that could help bridge these differences.
